Sedona Skies is an indie rock band based in Austin, TX. After immersing herself in the L.A. music scene as a solo artist, Lead singer Adara moved to Austin where she met guitarist and songwriter, Carissa Chiu. Bonding over their Arizona roots, the two singer-songwriters began playing music together as the acoustic duo January & June. Shortly after Lead Guitarist Jeff Black (Belcurve) Bassist Michael Mancuso (Hard Riffs, Steady Legend), and Drummer Kurt Lammers (The Eastern Sea, The Hi-tones) joined to help form the band Sedona Skies.
In 2017 the band recorded their first EP and celebrated the release with a headlining spot at Stubb's indoors. After the release the band received local and national acclaim and have continued to play and offer support for local and national bands at venues such as Stubb's, Hotel Vegas and Cheer up Charlie's to name a few. They also made their SXSW debut in 2018 as part of a local showcase held on 6th street. Currently the band has been recording their new EP with producer Ben Gallaway that will be released in Summer 2018.
Their sound has a unique blend of powerful harmonies with dynamic lead guitar, bass and drum parts paired with catchy original music. Some of their influences include Fleetwood Mac, Florence and the Machine and Amy Winehouse. With Adara's soulful lead vocals and Carissa's dynamic fingerstyle playing, their music style touches multiple genres from indie folk to blues rock delivered with a retro style.
"Recently having released their first EP, the self-titled debut opens with ‘The Island’ – mysterious and nondescript, the track’s title lures the listener in. A self-confessed song skipper, I fell down that rabbit hole and into the warm embrace of what I’m sure will soon be their recognizably signature sound. Breathless tones meet you at the beginning of this track, accented and yet still perfectly offset by each other, soothing but startling with beauty at the same time. The unique, blues-y vocals of the duo complement the buoyant yet profoundly emotive track." -Track Rambler 2017
"The sturdy spine that runs through every song on the album is the incredible vocal work. Both Chiu and Ostdiek have excellent vocals skills. Their singing style is subtle and understated, but there's a quiet power in their performances that deliver real depth. The pair are also incredible songwriter. Each song delivers powerful, rich narrative, even when the subject matter is lighthearted. While they consider themselves Indie/folk I would actually say the music expands far beyond that classification. There's a healthy amount of quality pop in their work. The percussion and bass also spice it up with subtle hints of jazz and blues."-Divide and Conquer 2017
